GRRRR. I went through my laundry basket the other day and it appears that a few moths had made their home at the bottom and were happily munching their way through my Welsh Conwy Socks (Ravelry link) knitted in Hazel Knits Artisan Sock.

Actually, make that double GRRR with GRRR sprinkles as they have munched their way through both socks and one of them has TWO holes. I am fuming and I can't quite decide what to do. Do I:
1. Throw them out.
2. Throw them out.
3. Throw them out.
4. Try to darn them. Fail and then throw them out?
This is now how I envisaged the beginning of my knitting year 2010. I do have a darning mushroom that Thomas gave me as part of my knitting exchange a few years ago but I really can't see that I have the patience or the ability to darn socks.
GRRRR.
Posted by Amelia at January 5, 2010 07:31 AMIf you have not solved the problem yet: give them to me and I'll darn them. I enjoy darning more than is healthy.
Also, pop some lavender in the laundry basket to prevent a repeat!
Posted by: Jane in London at February 9, 2010 01:51 PMWhat a shame! This had happened to me too & I just put the socks aside & hope that the holes repaired themselves. I am a failure at darning but do not want to throw my handknits away.
Posted by: Ann Lim at January 11, 2010 03:08 AMSocks are so easy to darn, and you have little holes. My son wears holes the size of half dollars!!!! Would be a shame to waste such a good pair of socks for a couple little holes.....
Posted by: LizzieK8 at January 6, 2010 12:22 PMDarn! You have nothing to lose.
Posted by: Sarah at January 5, 2010 09:06 PMAAAGH! Moth holes! Horrible picture!!! Don't throw them away - maybe darning them wouldn't be hard? I actually don't know much about it at all though so I may be way off the mark there, but it might be worth a go. A useful skill if you can master it, I reckon. Hope you can get rid of the moths too - yikes...
Posted by: jane at January 5, 2010 07:11 PMi vote for darning too.... you can bring them along next time we meet up for a coffee and i'll darn along with you. It's not perfect, because bottom of the foot means that you will feel the darning joins BUT, you can still comfortably wear them around the house.
Posted by: alltangledup at January 5, 2010 03:25 PMoh no! moths are the worst.
at least the holes look small, like single missing stitches, so I bet you can darn them.. its like duplicate stitch, right?
My first socks have huge 1-inch holes, I haven't tried to darn those, but yours look manageable :-)
Posted by: Diana at January 5, 2010 03:23 PMTut tut! How could you throw them away!! They are quite small holes and would be easy peasy to mend with just a few stitches. Think how smug you would feel making do and mending and you would get one back on the moths.
