A bientot

You'll mostly have noticed that I haven't been blogging much of late. I feel as though I have run out of things to say and I am struggling to find the time to sit down and blog or read blogs. I am busier than I used to be and when I get home in the evenings I don't really want to be online (I work for a company where I spend a lot of time in front of a computer) instead I'd rather actually knit or pay attention to the husband.

So, for the short term at least I am going to stop blogging. I may start again or I may not (what with Ravelry, I am not sure that anyone still reads this blog anyway).

I will leave you with my latest FO so that you don't think that you came here for nothing.

Kim Hargreaves' Ice

I give you Ice, my finally finished All Seasons Cotton project by Kim Hargreaves.

Kim Hargreaves' Ice

I think that I rather like this sweater - the collar is the only thing that I am not entirely pleased with.

Kim Hargreaves' Ice

I think that it's too loose at the top so that it keeps curling inward - I am wondering if I should rip half of it back and knit it on smaller needles. I'll ask a few of my knitting friends what they think - but please leave any advice if you have any.

The sweater looks great on you. I understand how you feel as I have been feeling the same this year. I rather sit & knit than sit in front of the computer. All the best & happy knitting.

I've read your blog for a long time and will miss it and you. I do hope Ravelry does not make blogs extinct, I prefer the blog format. I do see however, how writing regularly might lose its mojo. Wishing you happy journeys and good knitting.

I used to read your blog before I met up with you on the train to Iknit London and meeting you accidently in the real world was so weird after reading your blog and Pollys regularly! Thanks again for introducing me to all those real life rowanettes. I will try to remember to make the effort and comment more on blogs so the poor people writing them know that their efforts are appreciated. Thanks again for all that blogging........

Ice is lovely. The colour (or lack there of) suits you. I hope you will come back to blogging when you have time. Johanne

I will miss your blog . Please friend me (loopfrogs) on ravelry if we are not already so that I can still see your knitting. Its lovely knitting !
Blogging can be done in lots of ways ... just photos and a small comment, loads of writing, loads of pictures, commenting on lots of blogs, not commenting at all. So you could perhaps come back to it one day? :)

Posted by: Lin at January 7, 2009 04:42 PM

I understand completely! I've gone through several periods (most of 2008, as a matter of fact) where I couldn't bring myself to post at all because I wanted to spend time spinning or knitting instead of writing/photographing the spinning or knitting. Don't stress about taking a break -- it sounds like you're doing the right thing for yourself now. We'll all be here when/if you feel like posting again. :)

I'll miss your exploits, but hey, we have to realise that bloggers have lives too! I've never had either the time or indeed, inclination to have a blog, and I do admire those who do.
I love the look of your sweater and can't see anything really wrong with it, maybe the neck is a touch too long before the cast off? Maybe that's why it rolls ever so slightly.
Take care, keep knitting and most importantly, stay well.
Keep in touch,
Love,
Chris

This are really sad news, but I completely understand your decision. Having a blog for a long time does either inspire you to write more and more, to knit and craft like obsessed and neglect the rest of your life, to make pictures of every glimpse of your life, or to write less and less because you start to live again, to knit presents and give them before taking a picture for the blog, you´ve got the feeling that everything is said, you spend your computer-time more on Ravelry than in blogland,...........I always loved to visit your blog, to see the designs you made, to read your words and I especially loved the pictures of your hideaway in Wales. How your knitting changed from Debbie Bliss to Kim Hargreaves, quite similar to my own preferences, how you always used such charming colours and yarns - pleasing for the eyes and a wonderful inspiration for my own knitting, how you struggled with seams and finishing like me, how at the end each of your knitted item was a beauty. It really didn´t matter whether you wrote here once a month or once a week, it´s the contents that meant so much to me and not the amount of blog posts.
I am wishing you all the best and a very good time, have a lovely life and still lots of joy with new yarns and your knitting.
Take care,
Suzi

Ice looks fab. The collar looks good on you but perhaps we can't see the problem on the photos. I know you - you'll find the perfect solution.

As for no more blogging, well I completely understand. But I do lurk and will miss you. Ravelry does eat up time!

How interesting, you do not care for the collar, and yet looking at the pictures, I thought the neck looked fantastic. You should make it how it makes you happy, that is the most important thing. By the way, I may rarely comment, but I enjoy your blog.

...and I'm here too she says jumping up and down at the back like the piggy in Shrek ;)

I know the feeling you're having at the moment, it's one of those decisions that is really hard to make but I know in my case, it felt like a weight had lifted from my shoulders. It wasn't that I didn't enjoy blogging and everything that came with it, I just ran out of time.

Beautifully knitted sweater as always. It really suits you. x

I've always enjoyed reading your blog. please don't stop!
I can't see anything wrong with the collar. You could do it doubled up as others have suggested but it would give the sweater a different look and it might still roll down. I've always had this problem as I have a short neck!

I'm sorry to hear this but completely understand. I hope you will still consider a post every now and then. Your knits are beautiful and reading your thoughts about them are more than you get in Ravelry. Best wishes and happy new year!

you know i can actually relate entirely with how you are feeling. i've also considered giving up blogging as like you i struggle for to come up with topics and at times it feels more like a chore than something i enjoy.

thank you for blogging for all these years. yours was one of the very first blogs i found and i am also very glad we have become good friends. i'm also thankful i'll be able to catch up with you personally from now on.

Sorry to read that you are stopping blogging - I shall miss your beautiful photographs.

Fabulous sweater, it looks great on you. Not sure what I'd do about the collar (which looks perfectly fine in the photo....) - knit it longer and fold it over itself?? create a hem?

Posted by: Anita at January 4, 2009 09:24 PM

Amelia, please don't stop blogging, I enjoy reading your blog even if I don't leave any comments. Love the sweater

Posted by: Desiree at January 4, 2009 09:05 PM

I read it too! I can't really see anything wrong with the collar. I can't see how smaller needles would stop it rolling but I have no solution, if blocking hasn't helped. Could it have something to do with the cast off?

Posted by: dawn at January 4, 2009 09:02 PM

amelia, i have enjoyed reading your blog, admired your knitting, and marveled at your thoughtfulness in responding to each comment.

no blog of my own, i can't even manage to photograph my knitting projects prior to gifting them! so, hooray for you for setting priorities: knitting and hubby are worthy attractions for your time ( but in which order? ) hee hee

i, too, love the haircut.......and will keep up with your talents through ravelry. take care.

Posted by: barbara at January 4, 2009 08:59 PM

I certainly keep checking back from time to time, so don't think you're alone and nobody's reading you!! I'll miss you, and check back every now and then to see if you're back.

In the meantime - love the sweater!

Don't stop! Even if they're few and far between bloglines still lets us lurkers know when you've posted. Anyway, the best things come in small doses!

Posted by: Sherpa at January 4, 2009 08:16 PM

Oh, I love your blog, and dreaming about your knitting retreat. And I love pictures of your knitting.. it is always so lovely. The current sweater looks smashing on you.

I totally understand about being busy... but will continue to lurk and hope that you will drop in from time to time. It has been a pleasure to read about you.

Posted by: Willow Caroline at January 4, 2009 06:47 PM

The sweater is cute! As is the haircut. I know what you mean about blogs. But I always enjoy reading about other peoples crafting even if I don't always comment. I will resolve to comment more if you ever get back to it.

Posted by: Arianwen at January 4, 2009 06:46 PM

They certainly do still read it sweetheart :0) But I absolutely know where you're coming from - my blogging has slowed to snails pace as a result of life and Ravelry getting in the way :0)

I think your idea of re-knitting on smaller needles would work if you can be bothered doing it. Generally tho' it does look rather fab !

I've enjoyed reading your blog for a long time now. You wouldn't know it because I don't leave many comments, if any. I just wanted to say thanks for doing it.

The only idea I had about the collar is to knit it twice as long and fold it inside and tack it down. I've found for knitting things like ears on a hat, it makes them stand up better and gives them a nice weight and thickness.

I wish you all the best.
