A Norwegian - Argentian Hat

My bestest work buddy, Becky, left the company where I work last week. I've known Becky for a while as we used to work together and then when she moved to the company where I now work, I decided to follow her and got me my interview (and made me sound so good to my boss that she decided to offer me the job). So Becky rocks.

She rocks even more because she joined our knitting club at work and made a lovely baby sweater for her friend who had just had a baby. Don't you just love teaching your friends how to knit?

So it seemed only right that I should send Becky off with a handknitted gift. But Becky isn't leaving for another job - no she's off to work on a conservation project in Argentina. Which made knitting her something harder - what would she take with her AND find useful?

Then I found the perfect project. You just have to love Ravelry and how much it helps you find the perfect pattern in minutes.

Norwegian Star Earflap Hat

It's the Norwegian Star Earflap Hat pattern by Tiennie Knits which you can find here.

I used Cascade 220 which I bought at Get Knitted in colours which Becky chose herself. The red matches the shoelaces of her walking boots. Every girl needs a hat that matches her shoelaces right?

I did make a few very minor modifications to the hat. I found that if I followed the instructions to the letter, the hat was just a little deep (probably great for a man with a slightly bigger head) so I worked about 8 rows less than the pattern recommends. I also added the red star centres so that it would match Becky's shoelaces. Other than that I followed the pattern to the letter. And I foresee that I shall be keeping hold of the pattern and making another one or two some time in the future.
