Sometimes you have to be unfaithful

I have this ongoing conversation about the dark arts - spinning. I am adamant that I will never take up spinning. Not that I think for a second that those of you that do are wrong in anyway but simply because I think that the husband would argue that my starting a second stash would be ample grounds for divorce. And considering the space that my yarn stash takes up, he'd have a point.

Until a few weeks ago I would pretty much have put crochet in the dark arts category. Not because of the stash risk but because I was hopeless at it - and if I am bad at something then it's clearly that thing's fault, not mine. However, recently I was off sick from work for a week and I had a lot of time to kill. Daytime tv in the UK is dire I needed distraction and my brain was bit too befuddled to pay any attention to what was known at home as THE PROJECT - my sister's wedding stole. So instead I decided to play with some DK cotton that I had left in a bag from a project that I worked on ages ago.

Amelia's Crochet Blanket

And suddenly I was addicted.

Amelia's Crochet Blanket

Aren't the colours lovely? I keep getting distracted by these and suddenly have visions of a blanket for the house in Wales, baby blankets and all sorts. I am, quite literally, hooked.

Oh you have me green again!! I'm rubbish with a hook. The squares are yummy - I'm sure the finished project will get lots of wear.

Ok, I have a solution for you...

Because you must, must, MUST start spinning (it is so exciting to create your own yarn and it is therapeutic) I promise that for every ounce of fiber that you buy I will accept the same weight in yarn from your stash as a gift. Isn't that great of me? If you like I will even swap fibre stash for yarn stash (I seem to have more fibre than I can spin and none of my yarn stash is ever the right weight or quantity for what I want to knit).

I will even teach you to spin, trust me once you start you won't want to stop. All that lovely fibre going through your fingers, not once but 3 times as you spin, ply, knit ... tempted?

I may be a little mad.

I did a lot of these some years ago when I caught the addiction - it does pass eventually - enjoy it while it lasts! And it uses up stash fast.....

Amelia, welcome to the Dark Side!

I love, love, love crochet and it's just so much fun although not too good for doing whilst watching a film. For many years I always worked on teeny-weeny hooks and did very lacy things but nowadays I use larger hooks on things that grow quickly. Now you've mastered granny squares you could try a scarf...........

I've nearly finished one sock in that lovely yarn to sent me. Thank you.

Lovely Amelia.... adding to your talents, next on to the Chantel stole from Rowan Vintage knits ;-)

Those squares looks gorgeous. I do not like crochet at all and that makes me all the more appreciative of the crochet edge you did on Luke's blanket!

i tend to agree with you - crochet is ok as a dark art. spinning is just wrong wrong wrong!

glad to see my descriptive phrase has become part of your vernacular.
