I am back! The husband and I have had the most wonderful two week holiday in La Reunion and Mauritius (La Reunion is a wonderful place, I can't tell you how much we enjoyed walking in the mountains there). Juju and her new husband's wedding was wonderful and I shall post an update shortly with pictures of the finished Large Rectangle in Leaf and Trellis which looked beautiful over her wedding dress.
In the mean time (I have over 2,000 pictures to sort through), here's an update on some of the knitting that I managed to fit in around the Large Rectangle in Leaf and Trellis shawl.
It's probably pretty clear by now that I am a huge fan of Debbie Bliss and especially her baby knits (looking through my project list on Ravelry, I have completed ten Debbie Bliss baby knits in the last two years so I am not doing too badly...).

I particularly love this one though, the contrast of the green and white works really well. It's about as simple as it gets but it's awfully effective. And I like the fact that the colours would work as well for a little girl as for a little boy (although I've been told by a few people that olive green is really a boy's colour, I'd beg to disagree considering the amount of olive green in my wardrobe).

The buttons on the neck on either side are very practical - I've learnt from all of my friends having little ones that tight neck openings are never ever a good thing so envelope necks or necklines with buttons are a must.

I also love the detail on the bottom of the sweater, it's probably what makes it so sweet in my book. And it takes the sweater from being nice to being a little bit special.

Finally here's a picture of the gorgeous recipient wearing the sweater on a trip to the beach. So sweet.

Debbie Bliss Baby Striped Sweater
- The pattern: Debbie Bliss Baby Striped Sweater from Simply Baby
- The yarn: Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in Olive and Cream.
- The needles: Addi Turbos in 3.5mm and 4mm.
- Size: 6-9 months. It's increasingly clear to me that knitting anything in the 0-3 months or even the 3-6 months is somewhat pointless as babies grow so fast.
- Started: 16th of April 2008.
- Finished: 18th of May 2008.
Posted by Amelia at July 21, 2008 04:43 PMDear Amelia, that is so sweet and I love the colours. I liked it so much I've ordered the book and will be making it for my dentist's little boy who is about 7 months old now.

Posted by: kris at July 22, 2008 08:04 AMI think those colours are gorgeous! And definitely for either a boy or a girl. Just lovely!
Posted by: Helen at July 22, 2008 07:35 AMOh it is gorgeous, and the little baby is adorable too. Those cheeks are just so cute.

Posted by: Carol at July 21, 2008 07:59 PMWhat a lovely little sweater, the modelled shot is particularly sweet :) I am making a few bits and bobs for one of my work collegues whose baby girl is due in September. I lent her a few of my Debbie Bliss books and one of the things she picked out was the stripy jumper. My brief is for pale pink and chocolate brown- should be cute! and thanks for the tip about sizing.
Posted by: Sally at July 21, 2008 07:49 PMIt's wonderful. I usually make the striped cardigan in one of the cashmerino books, goes down a treat, though I now might have to give this one a go.
