The Kitten is still with us - she seems to have decided that she's quite comfortable here and has the husband wrapped around her little finger (he keeps feeding her tuna so you can figure out why she just 'adores' him). I am glad to say though that she is a cat with good taste.

Only Jaeger is good enough for her, clearly. She's very good around all of my yarn and very rarely even considers trying to play with it. When she does she keeps an eye on me as she is clearly aware that I am not really in favour of her showing the yarn who's boss.
It's been rather busy here. Last week at work we started a knitting group which was excellent fun. The company is encouraging us to teach each other new, non-work related skills so I volunteered to set up a knitting circle - 12 people showed up of all different knitting levels so we taught the beginners, reminded the not so beginners of what they had forgotten and we all admired the gorgeous cashmere booties that one of my male colleagues is making for his soon to be born second son.
I tried to work on this during the knitting circle.

But I am now wise to the fact that I can't knit lace and chat with people. I just don't have the attention span. Trust me, I tried and it resulted in my having to rip the last row as half of the yos were missing. I've also found out that some lace patterns just wont' stick in my brain.

When I knitted Jacqui's wedding shawl, the Myrtle shawl from Victorian Lace Today, I had no trouble memorising the pattern by the end of the 2nd repeat. This time I have worked 10 repeats and although I clearly understand where the pattern is going, I can't quite do it without the chart. It's most annoying.
Posted by Amelia at March 29, 2008 07:12 PMHi it is gorgeous!
I have been spurred on to try lace knitting and am going to start on a shawl for my sister!
Only problem is I have ended up with a huge tangled mess when I tried to unwind a skein into a ball!! It is so frustrating ..not sure am going to manage to untangle it all!!
Any tips anyone?
Gorgeous! the kitty, I mean. The shawl is pretty good too.....
Well done for starting the knitting circle at work. Does this mean you get to knit in working time?
Posted by: Jill at April 5, 2008 08:35 AMBeautiful lace! The shawl is stunning. I must have another look at that pattern.
Posted by: Carol at April 4, 2008 06:37 PMMy comment didn't appear sob! Your kitty is gorgeous and the shawl is going to look wonderful too. Fab colour.
Posted by: susie Hewer at April 2, 2008 04:33 PMSorry I forgot to get back to you about the pincushions! I cut 2 identical circles of fabric, stitched them around leaving an opening for stuffing. Then turn inside right way , stuffed, sewed up the hole. I then got embroidary thread and starting from the dead centre very firmly sewed the strings with all one piece of thread, pulling tight to get the shape. Button in the middle and done! I am not a great sewer but it worked. x
Posted by: Lin at April 2, 2008 02:31 PMI am like you about knitting lace in public!... It requires too much concentration, but I must say you are doing a great job!
Posted by: francoise at March 31, 2008 10:39 PMYummy!!

Posted by: Jacinta at March 31, 2008 10:13 AMA knitting circle at work - that's a great idea! The shawl is lovely. I am hopeless in remembering patterns & read from the chart from start to finish.
Posted by: Ann at March 31, 2008 01:37 AMThe shawl is looking beautiful, I am afraid that I am utterly hopeless at memorizing repeats, whatever the pattern, perhaps I need more fish oil in my diet?
The work knitting group sounds so lovely, such a good idea and wonderful to hear that men are joining in too.
Posted by: Rebecca at March 30, 2008 06:53 PMThe lace looks so lovely, I tried that pattern once but found the long repeats so hard to follow!
Posted by: Lin at March 30, 2008 04:21 PMThe lace is looking gorgeous. It is a stunning colour.
Some lace patterns just don't seem to gave an obvious rythmn to them. You will remember it though. Probably near the end ! ;0)
Clearly, the kitty has proven impeccable taste by choosing her new home.
And yeah, I know, I've been a very bad friend recently - it's just that I'm mostly busy. When I'm not busy, I'm tired. I will send a long-ish message soon, I promise - honestly, I will.
The shawl will be gorgeous BTW! Actually, it already is.
Love,
Viv xx
