A few months ago my sister and her boyfriend announced that they were engaged and were planning a wedding for this summer. My brother in law to be is lovely so we're all delighted for her and for us.
A few days later I was walking through Victoria station with a friend telling her about my sister's engagement when she said 'So you must be making her a wedding shawl then, like the one you made Jacqui.' I laughed and said that really I didn't think that my sister would want a hand knitted shawl. And then I thought that maybe she would and maybe she was sat there thinking that I couldn't be bothered to make her one.
On the offchance I called her and my opening gambit went somewhere along the lines of "I am going to offer to do something for you, don't feel you have to say yes, really it's only if you really want me to and I will be perfectly not upset if you decide to say no.... but if you'd like a wedding shawl, I'd love to make you one.' Turns out that she thought that I didn't want to offer because Jacqui's wedding shawl had been a fair amount of work (and stress when I suddenly realised that I had 3 weeks left and a quarter of the shawl plus the border still do). Bless her.
So, thanks to the help of Wendy (Thank you Wendy!), this arrived on my desk a few weeks ago.

It's Sundara's Silk Lace in Sangria over Garnet. I can't begin to tell you how absolutely gorgeous this yarn is. The colour is much closer to the image on my site than to the one on Sundara's site, there's a lot more red and burgundy in the skeins than there is pink. But that's just fine as my sister will be wearing a necklace with a Garnet in it so the shawl should be just perfect.
The pattern will be the Leaf and Trellis shawl from Victorian Lace today. More pictures of the work in progress to come soon.
