More purple knits

One of the problems with lavender colours is that when you take pictures of them, they tend to come out looking a rather grey. I had this ages ago when I made the Debbie Bliss Bow-tied bolero for a friend's baby. The colour is really pretty but just won't come out on my pictures - even with a lot of readjusting in Photoshop. So this is, I suspect going to be another one of those knits.

One of my managers at work, a lovely lady, is due to have a little girl soon so I've also been knitting for her little one. I am making this.

Debbie Bliss Matinee Coat

It's the Debbie Bliss Matinee Coat from Special Knits. Yes I do seem to knit a lot of Debbie Bliss baby stuff. I am determined to branch out and, at Jacqueline's recommendation, I think that I am going to make this my next knit: the Peapod Baby Set by Kate Gilbert from Interweave Knits Summer 2006 (although you can download the PDF pattern for free here if you register which is also free so completely worthwhile).

The pattern calls for a normal cast on at the bottom of the body of the garment but then you go back and pick up stitches and do a picot cast off. Mmm. I don't like the sound of that so I have done a picot cast on. I am convinced that I will get to the point where I sew the garment up and I will discover EXACTLY why Debbie didn't do that in the first place but right now I am knitting on in happy ignorant bliss.

There are so many other things that I really want to be knitting too that's it is all frustrating me a little. I've made no progress on Kim Hargreaves' Sal in such a long time that I suspect I may have lost my notes (which would be annoying as I have modified the length of the body). I want to get properly cracking on Kim Hargreaves' Buttercup as Jacqueline's finished one has made me immensely jealous and I have, after all swatched for her:

And then there's the sister's wedding shawl, and Smartie (another rather old Kim Hargreaves pattern) and, and, and. Maybe I should go and do some knitting rather than sitting here reading blogs and going through Ravelry to work out what the best sock pattern for some Sundara sock yarn might be. Sigh.

That little coat is going to be so sweet Amelia! I tried finding you on Ravelry, but to no avail. I am "LadyJane" just in case you want to add me as a friend ;-)

That is a beautiful knit and Debbie Bliss has been responsible for most of my baby/child knitting so she must be doing something right.

I often wish there were more hours in the day as I get sidetracked by Ravelry once again...

Hi Amelia - well you may have lots of projects you want to do, don't we all but you look like you have been very busy and finished lots of beautiful things. I've started on the sleeves for Kim H's Fay, aim is to finish by April! Maybe I should sign up for Ravelry so you can see pictures of real slow progress.

Nope, I definitely agree about the picot cast on, it seems such a waste of time to go back and have to do it. Be interesting to see how it turns out and if there was a reason for not casting on like that...

I can see why you do so many of Debbie Bliss's patterns. They are very stylish and you do a beautiful job.

I'm enjoying your blog, when I'm not knitting a long cabled mohairish sweater for my 6'2" son. Now I understand what eternity is all about.

I know how you feel & wish there's more time to do everything - knit, read blogs, ravelry, etc. I am now doing the laundry & reading blogs at the same time. Love the matinee coat.
