It's impossible to explain how you can seem to spend weeks and weeks knitting and seemingly have nothing to show for it. Although admittedly, a lot of that has something to do with the bad light and consequent lack of decent pictures.
Back in December, I went out and bought some of this.

To make one of these.

I made one of these a while back and I think it makes a gorgeous baby blanket.
The nice thing about it is that it knits up really fast and lends itself to being knitted on the bus. Always a plus these days seeing as I seem to be working longer hours than usual and don't have the energy to pick up the knitting when I get home. (Pathetic, I know.)

I pretty much managed to race through the main body of the blanket with only the odd bit of frogging here and there.

I didn't make such good progress on the zigzag border. I got a bit bored of turning rows every 10 stitches or so. It's very very dull if you ask me. And you knit for what seems like an eternity and find that you have only worked about 5 cm. Most annoying. But it does turn out really well and it does look really good when you have sewed it on.

When being the operative word. I didn't much enjoy the sewing-on-the-edging bit. Not that I minded the sewing all that much, it's fine as long as you are matching row to row. But that whole thing where you have to work out how many rows match how many stitches and then do your bestest to ease the stitches around the corner (it's the word 'ease' again, so absolutely un-ease-y, it's untrue). Yeah, I am not so good at those bits.

I'll show you the finished pictures next time as I've only just finished blocking it and I should also be able to share pictures of not one, but two baby cardigans. Oh yes, we've actually been knitting here!
Posted by Amelia at February 3, 2008 08:01 PMI love the color - so rich & warm. It sounds tedious attaching the edging but I am sure it will be worth the effort. Can't wait to see it all blocked.
Posted by: Ann at February 6, 2008 05:51 AMI love that bold colour Amelia. It is a gorgeous blanket. I would have got tired of the edging too but it looks very pretty.

Posted by: Sarah at February 5, 2008 12:44 PMI've made two of these blankets now and think that the edging took almost as long as the main body! A gorgeous blanket when done but I would much rather it had a knit as you go edging.
Posted by: Louise at February 4, 2008 09:55 PMThat is a great colour, such a nice looking blanket. The edging looks tedious, well done for sticking it out!
Posted by: Lin at February 4, 2008 07:26 AMI hate sewing on edges. Best to cheat and attach as sewing or to use an edging that's pretty and doesn't require sewing. I must admit that that is a very pretty edging though. Did you buy the yarn in Dec? I thought this was from the Ally Pally haul.
