Look! There's no mention of hats!
So what else have I been up to? Well I spent a lot of time struggling with Joy. I really really want to have joy but, despite help from Kim Hargreaves herself, I have failed to work out my tension issues. So Joy is sitting in a pile in the corner of my living room until I (with a little help from Polly) manage to get her to behave.
So in frustration I decided to cast on something that really couldn't possibly go wrong. Sometimes you need a sure fire hit.
Back when Heather was in London a life time ago, we went on a shopping mission to Stash and somehow this jumped into my handbag.

I really like the way the striping happened on the skein and the colours were so happy and girly. And I needed something to knit for the afternoon as I had forgotten the pattern for whatever it was that I was working on at the time - and I couldn't sit with Heather and Jill for an afternoon without knitting in my hands now, could I?
I tried one of Anna Bell's sock patterns, Giotto, but for some reason the yarn just didn't want to be a pair of Giotto socks (there will be a pair in my future, but I need to find the right kind of variegated yarn).
Unfortunately I decided that it was the wrong pattern whilst on a rather long train ride up to Wales and had no other knittng with me so I decided to use a simple free rib pattern and found Janis's Koigu Sock Pattern on the internet via my mobile phone.
And here's the result:

And the modelled shot:

I am rather ambiguous about these socks. The colours are, I am sure you will notice (Jacinta, I hear you!) my colours but there was something about the skeins in shop that really appealed to me. But I don't think that I like them as much in real life, probably because I don't really like the way the striping hapens - probably because I was hoping that it would look as it did in the skein.

See what I mean? But I am wearing them loads so they can't be all bad. The husband absolutely hates them and has taken to saying that he's going to wear sunglasses around the house when I wear them. Ah well, you can't win'em all.
I think they're totally lovely. They're happy, too :-)
Posted by: Stéphanie at November 22, 2007 08:34 PMI think your socks look gorgeous. I love the different pink colours in the Koigu skeins!!
Posted by: Hawkesley at November 22, 2007 10:12 AMThe socks look great & the colors are gorgeous - I am sure you look bright & cheerful when you wear those socks.
Posted by: Ann at November 22, 2007 12:06 AMOh I love these, they look so pretty and cheery and what a fab idea to use the internet from your mobile whilst travelling on the train. Nothing will stop valuable knitting time eh!!! :)
Posted by: Tracy at November 21, 2007 01:26 PMThey're lovely but I know what you mean about loving something on the skein but not knit up - I had the same experience, also with a Koigu colourway. But let's face it, no-one is going to let Koigu go to waste, even if it sin't exactly as hoped for ;0)

*laughs at hubby's comment* Aren't husbands funny about the knitting, sometimes?
I see what you're talking about with respect to striping in the modeled shots better than in the skein/sock comparison shot. Being a lover of subtle variegation, I understand how you feel... but I do think they look sunny and happy. Perfect for a long, dark, cold winter.
Good luck with Joy in the future, by the way. Sorry that such a lovely knit is troubling you.
Posted by: Amy at November 20, 2007 08:25 PMCheery when it is dark out that is what counts. I am working on a pair in that kind of bright pink too :)
Posted by: stinkerbell at November 20, 2007 10:19 AMI love them, in fact I may have this colour in stash.
