Jenny minus buttons

... But don't worry, I have the buttons. And as soon as I finish writing this, I shall start sewing them on.

Last week I was a girl on a mission. Blocking had to be done and so Jenny was pinned out and steam blocked. My favourite way of blocking as you can do it and then put it away. My flat is tiny so all that pinning out and leaving to dry on a sheet on the carpet tends to drive the husband just a bit mad.

Here's the sleeve, blocked and waiting to be unpinned.

And there's here's my big pile of blocked bits waiting to be sewed up (yes, that's the husband's sweater at the bottom of the pile, it's next in line).

And then I seamed her up. Seaming is not my strong point so there was a lot of bad language during this bit and even more starting from scratch. When IS someone going to open a store that offers this as a service?? I read on someone's blog recently that their LYS offers a blocking service. Somehow I can't see Libertys doing that any time soon.

But the ends that needed sewing in... Oh my oh my, there were a lot of those. I nearly cried as I took this picture.

And eventually I ended up with this little pile.

At this point I was quite certain that I was going to like her quite a lot. Although the neck is, as other knitters have pointed out, rather shallow, I still think that it's quite flattering and just a little bit different.

The one thing that I am not completely happy with is the edge of the button band. It's really hard to get it to look right.

I should almost certainly have picked up more stitches than the pattern recommended along the edge. And I should probably have cast off using a bigger needle. But I don't have a lot of experience with things like this so there you go. Not perfect but it'll do.

And here she is all sewn up and waiting for her buttons. Which I am now going to go and sew on. Which should result in further bad language.

Hi there,
I just came across your blog, and it's really great; I love the projects you chose to knit. In fact I was thinking of taking on the Jenny cardigan. I did try the sweater version.

Take care :)

I am a lucky person and I have seen your Jenny, Amelia, and I would like to tell your readers that you tell big fibs. It is perfectly sewn up and I'm very jealous because it is gorgeous. You can make me one anytime : )
