Our Knitters' Guild are doing something similar with knitting (mentioned on Rowan Forum) with the 4 seasons. The branch to which I belong is knitting "Summer" complete with bar-b-q and bush fire!

I just started a sweater for myself that has a regular cable up the front but may have to try that cable instead!
