Where did summer go?

It is autumn here. Well maybe not quite, but with the weather that we have had over the last couple of days, you would be forgiven for thinking that we were at the end of September instead of the end of August. Here's a picture taken at 2pm this afternoon from my balcony.

Stormy Hampstead Heath

As I said, it's autumn. It was dark and stormy and quite cold too.

Which must mean that it is time to get some knitting done.

Here, at long last, is my Iris. I finished a while ago and you may remember that I posted some pictures of the issues that I was having trying to sew it up - and I got some help from Stephanie. Except that I am clearly a sewing dunce as I was still not happy with the sleeve setting after 4 attempts and religiously following Stephanie's advice. And then Jacinta kindly sewed the 2 sleeves on for me. Not just that, but she went beyond the call of duty and sewed in all of the ends too (most uncalled for but so so kind).

Iris on Amelia

So here it is. I would have posted a picture with my head. But today is one of those days where you just know that any picture of yourself is just a disaster. So here is another headless shot.

Iris on Amelia again

I really like this bolero. The short row shaping means that the shape is very fitted which is how I generally like my tops. It was meant to be knitted in Calmer but I wasn't too keen on that yarn due to its elasticity (I have since changed my mind on that) and so decided to knit it in Debbie Bliss Cotton Angora. Which is such a pleasure to knit with. And sheds a lot less once you have washed it once. Which is quite a relief as I was worried that the husband would only allow me to wear it out on the balcony with the door closed.

I have added a few rows to Ice.

Ice half knitted back

Sorry about all of the photography of dark items, I have just realised that it is not really going to make for pretty viewing. I will try to make some progress on my colourful Flighty some time soon, so as to cheer the colours on this blog up a little.

And I have been sewing up another Debbie Bliss Boat Neck Sweater using Cashmerino Aran. Another favourite yarn. One to be added to the 'If I could only knit with one yarn ever again...' list. Based only on the pleasure of knitting with it.

Blue boat neck sweater

I am hoping to give this to its new owner some time very soon. Right, now to go and finish it instead of talking about it :)

Beatifully modelled Iris! I remember the touch of it, and it is really wonderfull. Aren't you concerned about attracting some hands asking (and touching) if it's new? Or "lavé avec Mir Laine"? I mean, there is not much space exept...well ;-) But this is for sure the only backside, 'coz it's really nice. I love your projects. Just finished Grace in ASC from the same mag as Ice. And you make me think about doing a baby sweater in Cashmerino Aran, too.
Today being a nice day here in Brussel, I suppose the nice weather must be everywhere in Europe, so have a good & suny day!!!

Wow
Those Iris sleeves are so well sewn!! Tee hee!
Glad my days at Fashion college weren't entirely wasted.
Very beautifully modelled! What was wrong with your head??

Your Iris looks fantastic on you ! Fab !

It looks lovely on, Amelia. And thanks for the tip about Jacinta! Your bad weather shot doesn't quite show the terrible rain we're having at the moment - maybe we could have an action shot outside over the w/e when it's sure to rain :)

I love your Iris! Hmmmm, I've got some white Calmer that isn't destined for any specific project yet . . .

Beautiful Iris! I have to say that I didn't really fall for it when I first saw it in the magazine, but it looks so much better "in person"! Cashmerino aran is one of my favourites as well - so soft! I'll stop with the exclamation points now; just wanted to say that I love your site and your knits. Oh, and autumn's come to Norway, too.
